“Recovery” by Richard Krawiec

the rumpled sheets of sky
reflect in folds & shadows
on the pond sparking with striders
white Vs of ducks rake the surface
to ripples, trailing scatter of glimmer
that melts into reflected pines
I lie sideways, gently rocking
the shell of your face, treasured
in my hands while a million sperm
swim inside that ocean, your mouth
you smile & kiss me

drowsy, entwined, we watch
a great blue heron unfurl
a fringe of chalk dust feathers,
leap into flight, body carried
lik an awkward child swaddled
between wings that stroke it above
a shimmering landscape of trees & clouds
when it wheels back, a second heron
ghost glides a story higher, synchronous
blessing we take as proof of us
